Monique Turczynski, a 26-year-old mum of two from the Southern Highlands, NSW, faced a challenge familiar to many households: dealing with food waste. Like many, Monique and her partner were frustrated by the amount of food ending up in the bin. Despite efforts to streamline their shopping and cooking, there was always a portion of food waste they couldn’t avoid like bones, pits, peels and the meals her toddler and baby refused to eat.

Following the launch of the Eco 5 in Australia last year, enrich360 set out to tackle food waste in classrooms armed with a new tool for students and teachers; the enrich360 EcoSchools Program. Exploring a wide variety of curriculum subjects, the EcoSchools Program is packed with Lesson Plans and resources to teach and implement sustainable practices in the classroom, complemented by the enrich360 Eco 5 Benchtop unit.

The Food Technology department at St Mary’s Anglican School is creating a circular economy in the classroom, through the diversion of food waste from landfills and back to their soils. By implementing the Eco 5, the school has transformed food scraps into valuable fertiliser, fostering a culture of sustainability within the school community.

Eco Mob, an Indigenous-led enterprise based in Darwin, NT, is revolutionising food waste management. Using enrich360’s cutting-edge dehydrator technology, Eco Mob has launched Darwin’s first food waste dehydration facility, which processes food waste from local Defence bases and converts it into nutrient-rich soil amendment. This facility marks a crucial step toward environmental sustainability in the region, aligning with a broader commitment to the circular economy and Australia’s commitment to halving food waste by 2030.
