With Melbourne City’s plan to divert more than 90% of  food waste from landfill by 2030, enrich360 is well placed in the industry to help attain these goals. Are you inspired to see how you can also join in the circle of sustainability?

We were lucky enough to sit down with City of Melbourne (COM) to talk about the importance and dedication COM has.

Q-What was the reason behind COM embarking on this pilot?

A: City of Melbourne aims to address one of the most complex waste collection issues across Australia and implement a feasible and viable waste service for Food Organics in high-rise buildings classified greater than six storeys in height. The pilot is a part of the city's broader goal to reduce waste to landfill and promote sustainable waste management practices.

Q-How much food waste are you hoping to divert over the course of the pilot?

A: The City of Melbourne hopes to divert as much organic waste as possible during the pilot, with a target of 50% of the total food waste generated to be diverted using the dehydrator. The pilot aims to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of the service and identify areas for improvement.

Q-What % of resident uptake do you expect on the pilot?

A: City of Melbourne hopes to achieve a high level of resident uptake for the pilot program. However, the specific percentage is not determined yet. The city will work closely with residents to educate and encourage them to participate in the program.

Q-Why did you choose the enrich360 machines to be a part of this pilot?

A: The City of Melbourne chose the enrich360 machines due to their ability to process organic waste on-site, reduce the volume of food waste by up to 90% and produce high-quality fertiliser product within residential bin rooms. The machines also align with the city's circular economy principles by providing a closed-loop system that transforms waste into a valuable resource on-site to be potentially used on local parks and gardens.

Q-What do you like about the enrich360 machines and circular economy?

A: The City of Melbourne values the enrich360 machines for their size range, ease of use for residents and circular economy principles as they provide a sustainable, interactive and environmentally friendly approach to waste management for those living in high-rise buildings.

Q-How will diverting food waste from landfill help sustain the future for COM?

A: Diverting food waste from landfill helps to reduce the environmental impact of waste disposal and promote sustainable waste management practices. City of Melbourne has a target to reduce landfill by 90% by 2030. By implementing the Food Organics collection service, the City of Melbourne is taking an important step towards achieving its waste reduction and sustainability goals, ensuring a more sustainable future for the city and its residents.
